Holds a PhD in Sociology from ISCTE-IUL (Portugal). He has been visiting professor at different universities, and he has been appointed as a scientific advisor for different departments, organizations and projects.

His research has four (4) main topics: (i) Nightlife, festivals, and tourism (ii) city branding, culture-led regeneration strategies, artwashing and commodification of the arts, (iii) creative industries, artistification, culture and artistic careers of emergent professionals, and (iv) methods and methodologies with special attention to research at night time.

He is the Founder of the International Night Studies Network, Coordinator of the Rede de Etnografia Urbana (Etno.Urb), and the Director of the Urban Audiovisual Festival.

Holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Barcelona and currently is FCT Associate Research Professor in Urban Geography at NOVA University of Lisbon. His main research topic deals with nightlife, tourism and urban change in south European cities Nofre coordinates LXNIGHTS – The International Research on the Urban Night, and is Editor of Exploring Nightlife: Space, Society & Governance.
